Tips on Creating Your Own Sacred Space

Many years ago, my brother gave me a book called, "A Room of Her Own" by Chris Casson Madden. The photography genuinely captures the creative self-expression of all of the women featured in this book and each time I flip through the pages, I'm inspired.

Everyone needs to have their own sacred space to replenish their spirit. If you have a spare room, that's great, but that's not necessary. A quiet corner is just fine. It's more about having a designated space for you to contemplate the universe, pray, meditate, journal, read, do yoga, sing, create art, light candles, and get centered, than anything else.

A sacred space in your home can also be a nice environment for a mobile spa treatment!

And because it's your space, you can embellish it however you like, with whatever makes your heart sing. I like to light candles and have a variety of essential oils handy. Fresh plants and flowers always bring cheer to any space and I also like to collect rocks, crystals, and sea shells to bring nature indoors.

Your room can be inside or outside. You can furnish your sanctuary with a desk, alter, a nice, comfy lounge chair or just have pillows on the floor. A Himalayan salt lamp will add a nice glow to the room as well. You might also like to have a shelf filled with all of your favourite books.

If you're going to paint, choose warm and calming colours and then hang photos, paintings, kids' art, special words, mirrors, and maybe even a vision board on the walls. Include things that are special to you and things that make you feel good. You can always change things up with the seasons.

Let me know how it goes!

About Homespunspa

The concept of Homespunspa was sprung from a sleep-over in 1999 after I invited some friends to a slumber party that turned into a spa party.

We each created our own home spa treatments for hair, nails, face and body using natural ingredients like avocados, lemons and essential oils.

That night, my love of spas was awakened and as my head hit the pillow, the word, "Homespunspa" was born.

Homespunspa Enterprises was established in 2001 and the sheep logo was commissioned later that year. In 2002, I launched and the site has been live on the Internet without interruption all of these years.

In 2006, I self-published a book of home spa recipes entitled, How to Throw a Home Spa Pajama Party the Homespunspa Way.

In 2009, I added a blog to the Homespunspa website. In 2010, I graduated from the Aveda Institute with a diploma in Esthetics. In 2011, I added a mobile spa department to Homespunspa. In 2015, I graduated from the Rayner Institute and am now offering life coaching from the treatment room on Cook Street, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Homespunspa's e-newsletter, Ewesletter, is published each month on or after the 16th day.

Thanks for reading the Homespunspa Ewesletter. I hope to see you in person soon.
